Floss Bags

Zippered floss bags are helpful to keep track of your floss for a project. Floss bags come with a place on the outside on which you can write the floss number and two holes for placing a collection of bags on craft rings. This is a convenient way of storing the floss because you can put miscellaneous pieces of unused floss back in the bag to be used later.

I recommend the Westex Bag-It floss bags. Amazon did not seem to have that brand of bags, but the you can use the following link to purchase a package of 36 bags.

However, Amazon does carry the metal rings for linking the bags together. See my Amazon Store for more sizes of rings.

  • Line Magnifier

A line magnifier contains magnets to hold your counted cross stitch graph to a magnetic board or any metal surface and a bright red line to help keep your place on the graph.

  • Magnetic Board and Folding Stand

A magnetic board provides a place to put your graph and a folding stand allows you to prop up the magnetic board. These two tools provide easy viewing of your graph.

A Line Magnifier also works well with the Magnetic Board for marking your place on the graph.

A needle threader is helpful, especially when working with smaller needles for smaller count fabric. If you buy a small, flat, metal needle threader, such as the LoRan threader, you can store it on the outside of the magnetic needle case with your needle while working on a project.

Use a magnetic need case to store your needles when not in use. You can also use the outside magnet to store your needle while working on a project. Tip: If you have dropped your needle and you can’t find it, use the magnet on the needle case to help you find the needle. Simply sweep the area with the magnetic needle case and the needle will stick to the magnet on the needle case as the magnet passes by the needle.

A needle threader can also be stored on the magnetic needle case while working on a project.

A good, sharp pair of scissors for cutting the floss, and possibly the fabric, makes stitching a lot easier and more fun. Folding scissors make travelling with your stitching projects easier.

  • Embroidery Hoop

A plastic or wood embroidery hoop is helpful to hold the fabric while you stitch. NOTE: You should remove the fabric from the hoop when you are not stitching to keep from getting ‘hoop marks’ on your fabric.

  • Counted Cross Stitch Software

You can create your own cross stitch patterns using your own pictures with numerous available computer software applications. These software applications convert your picture to a graph containing symbols representing the stitches, just like a ready-made pattern or a kit you would buy in the store or online. Depending on the software program, you can print your pattern in color or black and white. The software also produces a list of floss required and how much is needed of each color to complete the generated pattern. You can also use the software to adapt patterns you have already bought or add text or your signature to a pattern. The software will also show you a representation of how the finished project will look.
